Io9's Eclectic Top 10 Monster Fighters

In lieu of a proper Samhain post, I'm just going to point to this Top Ten monster fighters from Io9.  Considering how many different characters could be considered "monster fighters," this was always going to be a somewhat arbitrary list.  They have the Winchesters, but wouldn't Mulder & Scully be equally appropriate?  They have room for Sheriff Eben and Van Helsing (who, while awesome, is not the Vampire Hunter later fiction depicts him being) but not Solomon Kane or freaking Beowulf?  Ah well.

I think I'm ready to leave a hint about The Secret Thing: I have ten months left in which to complete it.

Happy Hallowe'en, folks!

  1. To be perfectly fair, that article was the result of a public opinion poll, so it's only natural that the more contemporary figures would get more votes (how many who voted for Van Helsing were inspired by the Hugh Jackman movie, I wonder? Despite the picture being of Peter Cushing, of course). Also, they do mention that Beowulf and Solomon Kane both made runner-up, so that's something. No mention of Mulder & Scully is surprising, though.

  2. I hate public opinion polls. (Seriously, do that many people love 30 Days of Night that much?) But fair enough.

  6. How about tomorrow! Its one of the most beautiful, most gothic stories ever put together (and ofcourse very spectacular in the monster fighting moments). It also hint at some od gothic sci-fi western society that probably only exist in the mind of Yoshitaka Amano. Great stuff to get the old imagination running.
Even the original 80s version is wort watching (saw it long before they made the remake and still loved it).
