Let's play the "Totally Looks Like" Game!

No, I'm not actually saying or even implying that the upcoming Conan film is ripping off the original Conan the Barbarian logo, the new Hydra symbol from Captain America: The First Avenger, Lurtz from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Kirk Douglas' titular Spartacus, or the Psychlos from Battlefield Earth.  Sure, there are some vague similarities, but nothing to get in a tizzy about.  I'm just having a bit of fun.

Because if I don't have a bit of fun, I'll probably eat my beard and tear my brains out through my nostrils.

  1. There's very little that is new or that isn't self referential in this genre of filmmaking, or even illustration, for that matter. As a fantasy illustrator I can attest that it can be very hard at times to produce images that are new and fresh. You want your images to be familiar enough to be recognizably "of the genre", but you also want to try new ideas and imagery. Somewhere in that tension is where most everything falls.

  2. The problem is: everything is "cliché". That is the reason of the coincidences.

Pretty much, yes. I just can't understand how they managed to make Khalar Zym look like one of Terl & Ker's buddies.

Some cliches being worse than others. :/

    Oh the coincidences

    Indeed.

It's definitely intentional, and frankly, I agree.
