Straight swords were the default design across the ancient and post-Roman world up until around the time of the Mongol Empire. Before then, swords in the Muslim world were usually straight. The Mongol sabre revolutionized sword design in Islam, China and Japan.
In the West, you did have ancient weapons like the falcata and makaira (neither widely used), but curved blades fell out of favor in the Roman and post-Roman periods. The medieval falcion would appear to have been ultimately derived from the Mongol sabre.
DeuceDeucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00240457596421236288noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-73350062797813957852011-01-27T15:07:54.222+00:002011-01-27T15:07:54.222+00:00in general, oriental swords are curved sabers and ...in general, oriental swords are curved sabers and western ones straight?
FranciscoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-58478844264836061552011-01-27T04:18:24.988+00:002011-01-27T04:18:24.988+00:00It's a bit different from your usual sort of p...It's a bit different from your usual sort of post, but I enjoyed it immensely.
