I think that perhaps too much was wasted on the back-story which is not really found in the original tale.
As Al posted in Conan boards, the capture of Thoth-amon by the reavers of Ascalante would have been a better start for the otherwise dialogue-heavy first issue.

But I still can't understand why people like QotBC, Conan fans or any comic readers. I'm more puzzled of the moronic reactions in the Conan boards! Do people really find it good or did their brains just shut down from the shock? :)
Some comments there have sounded, at least to me, so weird that it makes me question everything they have ever written there. Kinda tells how much I hate it. :P

Hopefully after few issues everybody comes to their senses.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-76153641466356350722012-02-19T11:06:57.742+00:002012-02-19T11:06:57.742+00:00I really liked DHs first few books, but as Timothy...I really liked DHs first few books, but as Timothy Truman and Tomas Giorello took over both art and writing has become dull and utterly lacking in anything to keep my etusiasm up. Is well done, I guess, but has no soul, no sense of awe. Truman seems to hung up to "get it right" and to aware of the legend of Conan to bother with dazzling adventure. The stories fall heavy as a rock istead of leaping fearlessly from page to page. Nothing but duty to the source material keep me turning Trumans pages.
Ofcourse, this dont make Wood/Cloonan good by default, but the change is wellcome and needed.
(I thought King Conan would suit Trumans style better, but having read his Scarlet Citadell for a week and just gotten through a dozen pages, I cant say Im impressed.)Fredriknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-86704571055371730672012-02-13T23:53:37.053+00:002012-02-13T23:53:37.053+00:00I am not a comic book fan. To me, this Conan is more visually reminiscent of GRRM's character Jon Snow, except somehow with an added cockiness.

It has already become established, so there is nothing we can do but complain, and even that seems useless, but it's still just wrong.butcherhammernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-60839201337244607242012-02-13T21:37:36.900+00:002012-02-13T21:37:36.900+00:00I have been a life long fan of the Big man and Con...I have been a life long fan of the Big man and Conan :), but I found that getting something that was'nt steroidal Conan refreshing, like a breathe of fresh sea air. I am fed up with his interpretation of a big dopey oak with a sword and a chick to save. He is a lot more than that, and if Woods can show that over the next few issues, man I would be happy. It isnt King Conan, even King Conan isn't King Conan (not straight adaptation PotS). So he has my vote for a leaner valiant Conan, but they need to keep it near the mark or they could end up losing the Conan fan base to a new breed that may not stay with the title after Woods leaves?Athgulhttp://fantasy-unlimited.webs.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-41425327554385597652012-02-13T19:57:41.272+00:002012-02-13T19:57:41.272+00:00Save a few modern day colloquialisms (in the clink...Save a few modern day colloquialisms (in the clink?) I found the writing not bad. However, it appears I'm definitely among the minority when it comes to the art. I found it too simplistic and too animeish (yeah, not a word, but tough darts). Conan had little musculature and always seemed to sport a silly, toothy grin. Belit has promise, but scene after scene of her with her tongue hanging out was just plain silly. I'm usually pretty open minded about the artwork in the various DH series, but I admit I'm baffled at the 'love' Cloonan is getting from stalwart fans for this interpretation. So far it' just not working for this fan. Where is Cary Nord when you need him?Bruce Durhamhttp://brucedurham.canoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-82344168188629349132012-02-12T18:25:44.078+00:002012-02-12T18:25:44.078+00:00"Conan spent the night in jail naked, and the..."Conan spent the night in jail naked, and the flashback to the court shows he's wearing only his breeches and belt: no scale shirt or scarlet cape. And a shame they skipped Conan's integration to the crew with few lines.

The one(two) thing(s) I really waited for was the depiction of the voyage and the landscapes of Argos, Shem and the Styx around Khemi. Boy, was I disappointed when they were passed with scenery of Argus' deck.

I'm quite afraid of the positive reception this comic has gotten in reviews. If it translates to great sales it might change how the future adaptations are made. I dunno, perhaps it is just the Nemedian Pessimist (a branch of Nemedian Skeptics) in me.

Btw, I really cringed when I saw the scene of Conan and Tito on the land when Conan looks shorter than Tito.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-63476834114968570932012-02-10T21:41:54.678+00:002012-02-10T21:41:54.678+00:00Outstanding!Outstanding!Hero of the Federationnoreply@blogger.com
