Beregond's actually my favourite character in Lord of the Rings precisely because of this, in addition to just being such a well written character.

"Abegwe's Sword" is included in the first Dossouye novel, though I read it in J.A.S.' "Amazons!" anthology. That Charles is the only male author in the collection gives you an idea of the story's coolness. I think Lulu.com's the best place to get CRS stuff, though it can be a bit pricey.Taranaichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02176999342965850175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-35486439216389126532013-03-09T19:23:18.267+00:002013-03-09T19:23:18.267+00:00Thanks, Anarchivist! I think that lack of firsthand information is indeed a source of great frustration.

I always liked Olivia not just because she saves Conan's bacon, because the story is also largely told from her perspective. The Conan stories are notable for this, I think, where the female character who is ostensibly Conan's "prize" is actually the point-of-view character for much of the story.Taranaichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02176999342965850175noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-13332123084239817652013-03-09T14:58:34.357+00:002013-03-09T14:58:34.357+00:00Zelata is probably my favourite character in the C...Zelata is probably my favourite character in the Conan stories, even if her appearance is quite brief, her sheer awesome makes up for it. Your assessment of common people in LOTR is spot-on, and it's why Beregond stuck with me so long after I read the novel.

I'll get to Dossouye after I've tracked down the Imaro books that I can, but the premise is fantastic! (it's disappointing how hard paper copies are to find. I might just have to give in and get an e-reader in the near future since that seems to be the simplest way to obtain Saunders' material).Michalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02198881279554204600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-66822679471222258192013-03-09T13:59:02.103+00:002013-03-09T13:59:02.103+00:00The answer to whether S&S is "inherently&...The answer to whether S&S is "inherently" sexist is "No." I'm glad you've taken the time to give me such a great explanation of why, for those pesky people who need it. :) Especially happy that you included Zelata!Anarchivisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06599522097057431891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7177193073415704349.post-71371593450191158762013-03-09T05:10:37.965+00:002013-03-09T05:10:37.965+00:00Great post, Al.
